This episode is dedicated to the NY based director Ruben Latre, known for his immersive and emotionally resonant cinematic experiences.
How would you describe what you do?
If it’s a commercial project, I describe what I do as public relations. If we are talking about filmmaking, something that is not commercial, it is capturing life through a filter, which is your imagination and sensibility.
How did you get started?
I started as an editor in Spain. A friend had a band and asked me to make a music video. After a few music videos and documentaries, I moved to New York trying to get commercial work. Soon after, I started getting commercial work in Spain, which started everything for me.
A strength or skill you value most:
Preparation. To have everything prepared and ready. Researching. Scouting. Planning. Testing, when needed.
One of your favourite projects you’ve worked on:
My favorite projects involve nature or traveling around the globe. I shot mini-docs for Samsung in Brazil, South Africa, Istanbul and Vietnam. Seeing other cultures, being there; I really loved that. I shot a piece in Oregon that I liked – all nature footage. And the last project that I shot, was a good experience with a result that I was happy about…
